Libya unrest in 2015

A large amount of humanitarian aid had to be delivered into conflict-torn Libya, which naturally entailed substantial challenges and considerations.

Key facts

Situation: Conflict-torn destination that required quick, planned out action on site

Cargo: A large amount of humanitarian aid goods

Solution: Collaboration with fellow WCA member, transportation on Antonov AN12 freighter

Challenge

To reduce the time spent in the crisis centre, the project needed to be planned out to the smallest detail to ensure smooth loading and off-loading. Furthermore, the challenges included securing landing permissions and arrange for adequate insurance and preparation of the aircraft in anticipation of the operations in such a volatile and dangerous region.

SolutionAir Partner collaborated with a fellow WCA member to face the challenge. We chartered an Antonov AN12 freight aircraft to deliver the much needed medical supplies to two airports in Eastern Libya. To respond to the requirement of a quick turnaround on site, the aircraft was specifically chosen for its ramp-loading facility which allowed load and off-load using only forklifts. The activities were constantly monitored by our in-house 24/7 Operations control centre in our head office in the UK to maintain the necessary security precautions.
